AZ 3 - 2 Kayserispor
UEFA Cup 2006 - 2007 1st round · 2006-09-14 Referee: Julian Rodriguez Santiago

An almost solid performance in an amusing game

A little unconventional

Rodriguez Santiago was refereeing unconventionally for a Spaniard. He was not slowing the game down and tried to keep the ball rolling as good as possible. Although same as many other Spanish referees, he doesn't like to have his authority questioned. Players waiting too long with play to resume often face the consequences that the other team is allowed to continue.

He's got it...

Rodriguez even saw a lot of fouls at places without the ball in sight. A worthwhile quality thet kept the game intact, especially when it became rough in the second half. The game became Turkish hot, tough and sometimes a little dishonest. Rodriguez Santiago forgot to give Turkish player Fahti a red card for a deadly tackle on De Zeeuw. AZ player Démbéle was continually tackled. Not much free kicks went his way. Overall it was an amusing game where both teams were trying to win. It made football and it's spectators all winners. Credits for the referee who made this possible.
