Croatia 1 - 0 Belarus
WC 2010 qualifiers - Europe · 2009-09-05 Referee: Konrad Plautz

Good at the end

Plautz

One of the last matches of his career and he was good, especially in two unusually details. First he awarded an indirect free-kick to Croatia because the Belarus goalkeeper held the ball more then six second in his hand. We see this kind of situation very rarely and many goalkeepers do this all the time.
In the second situation, Plautz again was right. Croatian player Corluka tried to steel some time and waited very long taking a free-kick and Plautz showed him for that kind of unsporting behavior a second yellow. The same player deserved to be sent off a few minutes earlier when he grabbed his opponent by his shirt from behind. During the rest of the match Plautz had a difficult job, but with lots of cards and a lot of whistling he managed to ease the tension.

Match

At the end Croatia won, but if your goalkeeper was the best player of the match and you just had one shot and scored a lucky goal what can you expected of the next match in three days on Wembley? The only chance Croatia has, is when Belarus play the same as they played this match and win against Ukraine.
