Heerenveen 1 - 3 AC Milan
UEFA Cup 2008 - 2009 Group stage · 2008-10-23 Referee: Julian Rodriguez Santiago

Upon a time

fox

Inzaghi, the old fox, was lucky again. Without much reason he elbowed Jong-a-Pin. In stead of red, Rodriguez Santiago seemed to be impressed by the Milan entourage and talked it over. The unexperienced Heerenveen players were confused, still in the same minute Inzaghi scored when he scrimmaged Jong-a-Pin to the ground and the ball in the goal. Still confused Heerenveen conceded a second goal a couple of minutes later. By then the match was already played.

yep

It's important to protect great football players by lunatic attacks, but never the other way around. So yes, it was a mistake of Rodriguez Santiago not to correct Inzaghi. Almost all other things Rodriguez Santiago did well, but by then it did not matter anymore.

not nr.11

Both assistants on the line were wrong with a few off-sides. At the end Heerenveen was rewarded a penalty. By now Rodriguez Santiago gave away ten penalties in twenty international matches. Rodriguez Santiago did not want to concede a second penalty for hands inside the Milan box. All-by-all this referee left the impression not being ready for the big matches yet.
