Netherlands 4 - 1 France
Euro 2008 group stage · 2008-06-13 Referee: Herbert Fandel

FANDELASTIC

Of course

Of course he could have shown more colours tonight and I'm glad he didn't. Still it meant a lot of work, especially in the first half, to get to the point where the players knew they were not going to get away with things. I think that is not a bad job, I think that's taking refereeing for the hard job that it is, if you catch my drift. He was making his point with every call. He was not setting easy examples by showing Makelele a red card for instance, as he might have done, after he slapped van der Vaart in the face.

Linesmen

Again the linesmen could have been better. I saw a couple of goal kicks that should have been corners. On the offside front however they did great as far as I could see. I don't think either team really tried to play on that either.

The Match

Not as big a match as the Holland - Italy game but an amazing match - and score line - all the same. The Dutch didn't look quite as strong this time, in fact they looked outclassed at times, but they managed somehow to come out on top. I have a feeling they won't stop until they are holding the cup. In the end: the French have only one Henry, the Dutch have about 6, the French have only one country rooting for them, the Dutch have at least 6.
