Mexico 2 - 1 Ecuador
Copa America 2007 group stage · 2007-07-01 Referee: René Ortubé

Good job

Allies

Mexico and Ecuador were determined to play. They weren´t thinking of protesting or using any tricks. Mexico was stronger in technique and Ecuador, physically better prepared. Both were referee´s allies in order to control the game calmly.

Yellow

Only Ecuadorian Hurtado was shown the yellow card because of a hard foul. And although the referee could have booked once or twice more, he chose no to do that when wasn´t necessary.

Virtues and little faults

Bolivian referee always tried to be near the actions. He was correct when conceding some free kicks near both areas. Of course, there were infractions that he didn´t sanction. But not very relevant.

1st qualified

Except for a catastrophe, Mexico is qualified for the next round. And except for a miracle, Ecuador will return home soon.
