We made fun of Hamer sometimes, Hamer is known for detecting more than 50 fouls in a match completely ruining a game with his whistling. But Hamer has been around internationally since 1994 and he brings a lot of experience to a match and this time he was good. No frills, no weird decisions, no excessive whistling, not one card too much, just plain good.
The players too helped a little. Play was fair and both teams really needed a win. There were at least four almost penalty situations, but not to Hamer.
Both teams hit the post, Twente have a gaolkeeper who is quicker while lying on the ground than Werder's Hugo Almeida is standing. The best Werder forward (formerly of Twente) is only a substitute because he has some beef with his team manager. After Frings was sent off, Twente scored twice.
