Four years ago he was one of the best referees, but in this tournament he had huge problems with his card policy. In the first match he should've sent off an Italian player, in the second a Brazilian and a Portuguese and in this one Aogo from Germany. But Archunida showed only yellow even that was one of the most brutal tackles on this WC.
Except for that mistake he did an excellent job in a difficult condition because of heavy showers and a high pace. Benito let them play on the edge of a foul, and he managed that well, not whistling for every contact. In the last minute of the match he awarded a foul for Uruguay, eighteen metres from the German goal,which was a difficult call, declaring full concentration in moments when many referees just think about how to end a match a soon as possible. Hector Vergara was Archundia assistant for beginning of their international career. He has done three WC , but on his last match he missed few offside calls, maybe he thinking about retirement and medals which he get at the end of the match.

Germany is the first team in the history of the World Cup to defend a third place. Surely they would be happier with the title, but it is better to finish the tournament with a win instead of defeat. Uruguay was the best South American team on this WC, which was a little surprising, but completely deserved.

FIFA

FIFA referee committee announced that 96% of referees' decisions were right. Great if you look at that information statistically, but how many referees' mistakes decided a match the committee doesn't tell you. Probably they are ashamed of the result. Blatter though, said that FIFA are now thinking about new modern technology which can help referees to make less mistakes. They should have thought about that before the World Cup. Eppour si muove.
