Australia 2 - 1 Serbia
WC 2010 group stage · 2010-06-23 Referee: Jorge Larrionda

all or nothing

yes, he made some mistakes

like all referees. There was a hands ball by Cahill he and his assistants didn't see. He missed Vidic hitting Cahill in the face deliberately with his elbow, Larrionda had whistled for a push, but he ignored the elbow and it happened in the box. And yes the player getting hit probably made it look worse and yes, there was some pushing going on as well and that pushing happened first; still putting an elbow in someone's face anywhere else on the field will get you a red card. Somehow fouling after a ref has whistled, almost always goes unpunished.
Larrionda could have shown Wilkshire a red but this is an as-seen-on-the-replay kind of observation.
Jorge Larrionda is good at giving the advantage, shows his card minutes later if necessary
He is fully in charge and players don't (well, hardly) question his decisions, you could say that when Larrionda doesn't whistle for a hands ball, it wasn't a hands ball. Larrionda is always right. Even when he isn't.

match

This was an all-or-nothing match, so why did the Serbs not play with all-or-nothing guys like Pantelic and Lazovic from the start? The Aussies had nothing to lose, but why did the Serbs wait till the end before they tried to score?
