During the 1st half, things weren't going too badly. But there were a couple of actions where Lannoy should have shown that he was the boss, and that he wasn´t going to tolerate some actions... Well, he didn´t do that. And if the players notice that they are free to commit hard fouls without getting a card, or to say anything to the referee, well... then what we saw today happens.
If a violent kicking is serious enough to endanger the opponent´s physically, it deserves a red card. These are the rules. Lannoy didn´t seem to know this: he allowed both Tiote and Keita to do it. Referees must never tolerate that kind of dirty playing, because it goes against the spirit of the game. Lannoy also allowed players to hold on to each other inside the areas during free-kicks.
Luiz Fabiano made a delicious 2nd goal. But he used his arm, in my opinion, illegally, to get the ball. If Lannoy couldn't see that, for whatever reason, the assistant should have seen it and told the referee... It didn´t happen. After that, TV showed Lannoy talking with Luiz Fabiano, both laughing and the French apparently asking the Brazilian if he had used his hand or not... It didn´t look very serious.
During the last quarter of the game, Lannoy lost control completely. Africans abused of fouling in order to stop Brazilians, and the referee didn´t do anything about it. Brazilians also used diving in order to obtain any reaction from the referee... And Lannoy, who had been tolerating dirty play during almost the whole match, ended his terrible performance by wrongly sending-off Kaká because of a non-existing hit against an opponent.
