Argentina 1 - 0 Nigeria
WC 2010 group stage · 2010-06-12 Referee: Wolfgang Stark

Now, fair play

Easy job

Because of that, Stark didn't have to use his whistle frequently. He managed the actions by just warning once or twice, and by being careful. He had to show only 2 cards, one each and both correctly used... Few calls, quiet job.

Goal

With the Argentinian goal, it´s true that Samuel was holding a Nigerian player and allowing Heinze to shoot. It was a foul. The problem is that if the referee never whistles against that kind of action inside the area, he can´t do it in a particular situation. It´s a matter of justice.

The game

It was not a brilliant performance by Argentina. The Maradona team just won and not much more. But it was a deserved victory, because Argentina had 3 or 4 additional goal situations that were aborted by the very good Nigerian goalkeeper. Messi showed part of his skills. We´d like to see more from Higuaín, Tevez, Di María, Milito.... Nigeria also had its opportunities, but could´t balance the score.
