Atlético de Madrid 2 - 1 Academica Coimbra
Europa League 2012 - 2013 group stage · 2012-10-25 Referee: Robert Madden

Not bad, not great

Not a shining star

I haven't seen Mr. Madden eithe in UEFA or in the SCL. I found him very talkative, almost like Webb (though in a different manner), when free-kicks were awarded close to the penalty-area and players gathered around. His decision-making was quite good when it came to foul detection, though he missed some opprtunities where he could apply the advantage rule instead of whistling. Luckily for him, on one of these occasion the free-kick was converted to double Atletico's lead. He was also more strict with Academica until Atletico's second goal. Ar Cryans was very active, indicating more than the odd free-kick. On the other, I'm afraid Salim Cisse (academica) was a fraction offside when the ball was sent into the Atletico box, for him to score. Yet it was a hair-breadth offside which means the ar should get away with his decision not to raise his flag. 2nd ar, Stevenson, was less active and a bit more vulnerable.
