Eddy Maillet knows of the game was in charge, so he started with the advertisements very early. It seemed to work but he needed to show three yellows in the first 45 minutes. Players are more focused on using their tricks instead of attacking, but Maillet only stop when was necessary. The player's behaviour was aggressive but fair.
It's very important and a clear message for the teams the yellow card in the first minutes of the second half, Maillet seemed to say: Hey guys, I'm still here, so calm down! It was not really a big foul, but it worked. After that, I have doubts on the 53' yellow against Algeria, I think egiptian player dived. In 62' he showed a yellow against Egypt that could have been a red. Later on the game he might have warned two or three players but he didn't thought it was appropriate. 70' algerian player on the floor, Eddy didn't stop until the next interruption, courageous decision. In the second half there were three interruptions, what a coincidence! all of them made by algerian players. That's the reason why I believe that 4 extra minutes is not enough.
Good performance sorrounded by enormeous security measures (15.000 policemen). Not big mistakes, only some disciplinary disagreement. His assistant referees where in general ok, he apply in a good way the advantage. Having the possession of the ball not always means that the referee must award an advantage. To sum up, good job Eddy, see you in the World Cup!
