Ajax 2 - 1 Dinamo Zagreb
Europa League 2009 - 2010 group stage · 2009-10-22 Referee: Thomas Einwaller

2 many refs

refs

So what do we think of those extra refs? Too many? That was what I thought when watching PSV vs Copenhagen earlier this evening: three refs see more fouls than just one. I guess the 5th and 6th referees were getting bored, it must be extremely dull to stand over there. You don't even get to run along with the players.
In this match you could see the other problem with this system: dissent. The two extra refs are proper FIFA in-the-centre referees, not assistants. These two are used to having assistants themselves. And in this match there was an extra called Bernhard Brugger, an old hand FIFA referee since 1999 who this year only got to officiate a qualifier of the same tournament and who clearly did not agree with Einwaller. He saw no fouls at all and just stood there, perhaps bored or just plain jealous thinking he should have been the main guy.

match

a bit chaotic, but never a dull moment.
