So was this a first in international football? A team with no players at all from the country it is from? I don't understand it, I don't understand anymore why there is an Arsenal, what is "typically Arsenal" when all of it's players are from somewhere else? I wonder about the fans. I used to be an AZ fan, sort of, until Louis van Gaal left. But I'm also Dutch and as a Dutchman I always hope Arsenal sider Van Persie plays really well and scores a lot, because Van Persie will play for us at the World Cup next year. I also hope AZ goalie Romero plays really badly, because he will be there too in 2010, playing for Argentina.
The main difference between Arsenal and AZ is that probably everybody from AZ, including their coach, would rather be working for Arsenal.
You may have wondered why AZ had no sponsor name on their shirts. AZ is owned by a guy called Dirk Scheringa, a self made business man and loan shark. Dirk also owns a bank: DSB (yes, his initials plus the word Bank), and that bank imploded a few days ago. It's a long story, but Dirk losing his bank made many people happy - all those bad loans and trickster mortgages - except the ones working for him of course, and the team of AZ.
