Ajax 2 - 2 Marseille
UEFA Cup 2008 - 2009 round of 16 · 2009-03-18 Referee: Florian Meyer

hmmm

But first

he did very well. Meyer let the players move on, it was a fair match for a while and little fouls were just not important enough to spoil the fun. Meyer only whistled when he needed to and that wasn't very often. Yellow cards were for a rude gesture to an assistant and for a deliberate hands ball.

but then

during the second half little irritations sprouted. Mainly caused by Meyer's irregular whistling. He seemed slightly in favour of the home team and when he started seeing more fouls, quite a lot of them were dives. Diving and reaching for hurt parts of the face seemed to work with the German referee. An the worst one was when Ben Arva decided to have been hit in the face. A few seconds after Ajax sider Silva had walked away, Marseille's number 20 reached for his face, yelled and fell to the ground. Meyer fell for it and red carded Silva.

match

Not a bad match, a good first half, thanks to Florian Meyer and the Ajax players. Then everybode seemed to start getting tired, including Meyer.
Ajax lack a finisher, a player who can head a ball or just simply shoot it in the goal.
