Liverpool 4 - 0 Real Madrid
Champions League 2008-2009 1st knockout · 2009-03-10 Referee: Frank de Bleeckere

no more 1st legs!

goals

So that wasn't very well judged and because of it Liverpool's first goal has to be re-evaluated: was it a foul by Torres in the Madid area? And should that goal have been canceled?
I didn't think so at first: great decision: Pepe fell on purpose, who wouldn't... It's a man's game, etc etc.
But then 30, minutes later, Raul did the same - pulling down his man in the box - and was stopped by De Bleeckere.
It was a foul, it shouldn't have been a goal
De Bleeckere went on to book Pepe for whining and Mascherano for kicking away the ball. Actually he made no mistakes in the second half, but then again, nothing much happened in the second half. Just two more goals.

off day

De bleeckere is one of the world's best refs, and like his colleagues in excellence, Rosetti and Larrionda, he has his off days. this was one.

match

Mind you: Liverpool were much better than Madrid. They deserved to win and would have won even without De Bleeckere's help. Madrid has no wingers, every attack went through the centre of the field, leaving the guy on the right standing there waving his arm to get attention. Madrid had no bite, crap forwards.
This was a good match, the first meeting was really boring and again I wish UEFA would stop having return matches. We should refuse to watch the first leg, refuse to go to the stadium. No more first legs!
