This winter both clubs bought new players, Dinamo one Argentine, one Czech and Robert Kovac from Dortmund, Hajduk returned players from Russia and Greece . Everybody talked about this match, tickets were sold two weeks in advance and the best Croat referee, Bebek, was appointed.
Before the match Hajduk supporters threw so much confetti from the roof of stadium that the lines weren't visible anymore and the match was delayed for 20 minutes.
The best Croat referees for this match was appointed ten days before, so he had enough time to prepare and this was his 10th derby. Bebek showed 7 yellows and two red cards, but he had to show many more for hard challenges and that failure cost him.
Hajduk played very physical and Bebek tolerated that kind of anti-football. In the first minute already, Bebek should have shown yellow or even red for one brutal challenge on a Dinamo player.
His second mistake was when he booked a Dinamo plaer for pulling a shirt and not a Hajduk for the same thing (which would be that player's second so Hajduk would have played with ten players).
In the 45th minute he awarded a penalty for Hajduk because someone in the Dinamo wall played with his hand. A very dubious decision, and no camera whatever the angle showed that situation properly.
In the first half many corner kicks weren't taken i the right way, because the ball was out of the corner line more than half a meter, but in the second half Bebek corrected himself.
In the second half nothing interesting happened except two red cards, Bebek should've shown one more. As a conclusion: in this match Bebek was not on European level, but the players and the whole atmosphere didn't help him.
50 fouls, many cards, nothing of football and on this match everyone could see the reason why Croat clubs play just first rounds in European competitions.
Full stadiums in Croatia occur only when the national team plays or sometimes Hajduk and Dinamo. In this match supporters showed why they are the worst in Europe. Two suspensions , first because of the confetti and second because of torches, monkey-sounds for players with another skin colour, fights with the police.... this is a said story from Croatia.
