Early penalty...

I was curious to see Roldan because this young referee has made it to the top of South America referees in a short time. He has already some important games in his palmares. Of course, he is used to take important decisions and in this match he didn't hesitate to give a penalty after a few minutes. I watched the replays a couple of times, and I tend to say that he was mistaken to give the penalty because the Gabon player simply hit over the ball. But there was no foul in my opinion. He gave no yellow card for this "foul" an he was right. And there was a good decision that the penalty had to be retaken because the players went in to the box too early. Later he missed some yellow cards for nasty fouls so his card policy wasn't consistent enough. The yellow-red to a Swiss player for diving was a great call.

Future

I think he should get a second match. I hope he can adapt his south american style (strict, severe) a little bit. In games with european and african teams you have to comunicate more with players. In this match, Roldan seemed a little bit distant altough he had full control during the whole match. But as I always say: It's a difference how to handle a match in your home country compared to international tournament with teams of other continents. A referee not only has to take decisions on the pitch. He also has to lead a match with his own personality. This is the point which this young and promising referee can surely improve. If so, he will led important matches even at international tournaments.
