Czech Republic 0 - 2 Ghana
WC 2006 group stage · 2006-06-17 Referee: Horacio Elizondo

Samba

Nr 2

One would think Ghana was the number two of the FIFA list for national teams and not the Czech Republic. And the Czechs played like they were the number 50 and first timers, not the Ghanese.

Nr 50

The number 50 of the world attacked and attacked and attacked, was 1-0 ahead within 2 minutes and the only reason the Czechs managed to get anywhere near the Ghanese goal was because they have three really great players. Nedved scored a goal which was judged off-side. Goal keeper Cech must have stopped about six more possible goals and Rosicky had to be physically stopped a few times.

Calls

Elinzondos bookings were a bit haphazard. Some culprits got away, others didnt. A difficult referee for the players who must have thought: why is he allowed to kick this guy and I"m not? Because he was too eager to score, Gyan got booked for not waiting for the signal because the referee was still busy sending off Ujfalesi for causing the penalty. A bit childish perhaps, but according to the rules.

The end

Two important Ghanese players, Gyan and Muntari, will miss next match. Both got booked unnecessarily. Call it inexperience, or stupid. All the Czechs seemed to be able to do was try a couple of shots from far at Ghanese goalie Kingson and make a few dives in the box. Elinzondo didn't fall for it.
