Worst man on the field from the beginning to the end. He had more wrong decisions in both boxes then on any other part of the field, and his assistants made that bad refereeing even worse.
All Hansson's problems started in the second minute, when he didn't award a penalty to Liverpool, after Agger was pulled back. That was the first penalty for Liverpool which Hansson didn't see. The second one was in the 50th minute when Assuncao played the ball with a hand but Hansson probably thought he played with a knee, what he clearly showed.
For Atletico he also missed two penalties for handball. The first in the 60th minute when Mascherano played the ball with his hand in a sliding tackle, and the second when Carragher played in a similar way. There are always dubious decisions about sliding tackles and handballs, but when a hand is not near the body or even up a player's head, referees should award a free kick.
Hansson permitted that both teams played hard, not rough, so he didn't use his whistle every minute, but with that criterion, he sometimes missed many clear fouls what made nervous some player, even he had control under the match until last two minutes.
He also missed many opportunities to give the advantage, he missed corners, throw-ins and one unsportive behavior by Liverppol player N'Gog. His assistant didn't help him. In the last minute, N'Gog tried to scored a goal with his hand, almost everything about this match is a situation with a hand, Ngog didn't score, but Hansson didn't notice it. Even when a player tries to play in an unsporting way he has to be punished, with a yellow card and an indirect free kick for the opposite team.
Once, I have to admit, Hansson had the courage to award a penalty in the additional time. Everything else about that situation was absolutely wrong. On the edge of the box, Pernia tried to jump, and then Gerrard jumped on his back and fell down. When everybody thought Hansson awarded a goal kick, he looked to his assistant and pointed to the penalty spot. In that situation Gerrard didn't protest so it is a big question to me why Hansson awarded the penalty. Atletico players did protest, but there was no help for them, a few player's got cautions.
The result is deserved by both teams. Atletico from the beginning knew what they wanted, they played with just one striker. From one counter-attack they scored, and Liverpool tried with pressure but that was an unsuccessful tactic. They missed their chances, so when even the crowd thought that three points were going to Madrid, Hansson saved a point for the Reds.
