Colombia 2 - 0 Ecuador
WC 2010 qualifiers - S. America · 2009-09-05 Referee: Sergio Pezzotta

Control class

Poor grass

The field in Medellín was not in good conditions, there were many wells and the players couldn´t play comfortably. The game was, so, frictioned, but Pezzotta always tried to make it fluid, using the advantage properly and keeping things under control without using many cards.

Good decisions

There weren´t big difficult actions, but in which there, the Argentinian referee decided well: he showed a red card to Pablo Palacio because he stupidly tried to trick him dropping inside the Colombian area... As he was already booked, he had to left the field. After that, Ecuador claimed a penalty but in my oppinion there wasn´t foul there. Except for a couple of small mistakes, Pezzotta was very good: he booked very correctly and was also well helped by Casas and Maidana, the assistants: in the 2nd Colombian goal, Gutierrez position was legal.

South Africa

Ecuador did an intelligent game, but Palacio mistake obviously narrowed their chances. Now both Colombia and Ecuador are drawn with 20 pts in the classification, in the 5th place.
