England 1 - 1 Ukraine

Uneven Performance

England Goal not given?

There is no doubt that Jermain Defoe put a hand on the Ukrainian defender, but at this level that is not a foul. I expected Cakir to have a higher standard during such a tough and exciting match.

Penalty

The penalty call was absolutely brilliant by Cakir, because he saw the handball in the penalty area but waited to see if Welbeck goes anywhere, and when England didn't gain an advantage, he pointed to the spot. Well Done!

Gerard Second Yellow = Red

I have to fell some sympathy for Cakir about Gerard's second caution of the match in the 88th minute, because he probably had the wrong angle. The replay did clearly show that Gerard did get a touch on the ball but that doesn't mean it was not a foul. My personal opinion: A Foul was enough. No second caution was needed.

Foul Recognition

Today his foul recognition was below par. The second yellow to Gerard and especially the late foul and yellow card to Glen Johnson shows that he had an off day.
