LDU Quito 1 - 1 San Lorenzo
Copa Libertadores 2008 1/4 finals · 2008-05-22 Referee: Marco Rodriguez

Mistake

Great starting

When they had played only 1 minute, San Lorenzo goalkeeper Orion went out of his area and fouled on a Liga player, preventing what was a good opportunity for LDU. Rodriguez, correctly, booked the Argentinian GK. Only 2 minutes later, an Ecuadorian was also booked for having committed a hard foul. And when LDU midfielder Manso complained about that, he was also booked. Rodriguez showed 3 yellows in 3 minutes, but it was perfect. After that, the hole match was under his control, and he had to show only one or two more yellow-cards.

Big mistake

Rodriguez showed a direct red to Torres after a normal foul in the middle-field. But the red was not because of that foul, but because the Mexican referee saw a San Lorenzo player stamp on a LDU one, after he whistled conceding that foul. Rodríguez saw an aggressive act, but it could have been perfectly solved with a yellow. In fact, it should have been a yellow. A pity, because in the rest of the game, he didn´t make many mistakes.

Winner

Liga were better in shooting penalties, so they will play the semi-finals.
