Fortunately the match was settled when Rosetti decided Darren Fletcher had denied Cesc Fabregas a clear scoring opportunity. Penalty. Red Card. The problem...Fletcher had obviously got the ball, and a man of Rosetti's standing should have been seen the deflection and reached the right decision.
Moments after Fletcher's dismissal, Adebayor stamped maliciously on Michael Carrick's ankle. Rosetti gave a yellow, but a red card for serious foul play would have been more justified.
Christiano Ronaldo's first goal was a stunning free kick from 41 yards. But it was a very soft free kick for Rosetti to give. In fact, throughout the night any marginal contact was punished by a free kick. At least he was consistent, but it stopped some of the flow in the game. Claus Bo Larsen did a much better job last week of gauging when to give free kicks and when not.
After tonight's performance, don't bet on Rosetti getting either the CL or UEFA cup finals this year. Presumably Frank de Bleeckere and Massimo Busacca are the front runners now...
