Once or twice Vink did reach for his pocket though, but kept it closed. He also has a low penalty average and obviously wanted to keep it that way.
He had a point though, Hleb was leaning against Kuyt and fell when Kuyt moved away. Many referees see that as a a foul, but not Vink. (It happened again, not in a penalty box with Gerrard, who fell and protested.) If you lean and fall, it's your own fault.
But yes, Kuyt used his hand and pulled a little bit. That is a penalty. Vink decided not to award it, I like that. It's either very brave or bad refereeing.
And Vink knew who Torres is. Fernando Torres is the worst diver in the world. Torres simply lifts both his legs and falls, you can always try... De Bleeckere fell for it (red carding Materazzi), Vink did not. Well, he actually did, once. Vink was far away, but his assistant Adriaan Inia (that guy is always right) was near and did not flag. Vink should always listen to Adriaaan Inia, who is very experienced and had to deal before with referees like Wegereef and Braamhaar.
Every match at the moment is Vink's most important match. From Eric's report I gather he is not very popular in his country, arrogant and 'card heavy', we hope we saw a future great referee.,
