He was helped by the players; they didn´t talk very much and didn´t use any tricky movements, and violent fouls were avoided. But there were some actions where he could have failed (contact between two players trying to get the ball). Well, almost always, he was OK, and he booked correctly, which is important.
The referee team made only one mistake, but an important one. Unión Maracaibo was attacking and a Boca defender, trying to clear the ball, gave it to a Maracaibo player who was in off-side. The assistant flagged and Torres whistled ... but the action wasn´t illegal because the ball came from the other team. FIFA instructors recommend assistants to flag inmediately when they see a player in off-side, but the referee has to say "go on" if the action is, anyhow, legal. This one was that kind of action, but Torres - evidently confused - did not notice how it really was. A similar action took place in a World Cup 2006 match (South Korea VS Switzerland) but was properly solved by Horacio Elizondo, one of Torres´heroes.
