To referee a Brazil-Uruguay in Sao Paulo Morumbí is a big responsability, even more if we are talking about a World Cup Qualifying. CONMEBOL chose Baldassi, decision that seemed correct considering he´s got important experience. He was always in control, and made a big and successful effort trying to be always near the actions. The cards were, generally, ok
The first doubtful action happend during 1st half: Kaka ran very quickly with the ball, going directly to Uruguayan goal line. The last Uruguayan defender tried to stop him, and used his body to displace him. Baldassi, correctly, saw a legal use of the body in the Uruguayan defender movement. It wasn´t a penalty.
In general it was a good work. Just 2 or 3 things to say: Baldassi didn´t concede what could have been a penalty for Uruguay, when one of their players was being held by a Brazilian defender during 2nd half. Later, the referee team made a mistake when they invalidated a legal Brazilian goal because a very little off-side.
But Brazil wouldn´t have deserved that 3rd goal; in fact, they didn´t deserve to win the match. Brazil was crushed by Uruguay, 1st half should have ended with a 2 or 3 goals distance in Uruguay favour. The match result is ununderstandable. The reaction of Brazilian people was impressive: they dedicated a strong "boo" to Ronaldinho, Robinho and Dunga, and when the match ended, they left very disappointed. Uruguay had deserved much more than the final 1-2.
