He is good referee but he is not excellent and this match needed the best referee. He didn't control in the right way, he yelled at the players, he didn't book when he needed to, he missed many fouls by both sides and his assistants missed many more. In first half his assistants had many wrong rulings, same in the second half. In one situation Scotland scored from off-side. In extra time one assistant signaled for a foul by a Scottish player and Mejuto Gonzalez gave the re kick to Italy and Italy scored.

At Hampden Park Italy scored after 47 seconds and the whole stadium was quiet for a minute from the shock, but the next 89 minutes the crowd tried to encourage their team. The match was typical for Italy and their clubs. They scored, then played defensively and tried to score a second one from a counter-attack. The Scots blamed the referees, but they missed on both sides. They had to score from the chances they got.
