Real Madrid 4 - 2 Olympiakos
Champions League 2007-2008 group stage · 2007-10-24 Referee: Tom Henning Ovrebo

Rules ruin match

hockey

And it was only a light foul. I don't know, maybe Ovrebo should not have red carded him, maybe he should have ignored the rule, maybe a referee should only apply it in the second half. Maybe maybe. You can't change that rule, it's a good one, but maybe the penalty should change. I heard someone say there ought to be a time penalty. Like in ice hockey.

and then

With only 9 players and a goalie, the Greek off course started stalling for time (it was 2-2 at the beginning of the 2nd half). Ovrebo did his utmost best to notice all the dives made by, among many players, Djordjevic. Actually the only time Djordjevic did get fouled on, he got booked for protesting.
The other champion diver, Robinho, got a mean kick in the shins in the box, seen by Ovrebo. Dutch superstriker Van Nistelrooy missed the penalty.

the match

was still entertaining because of Greek optimism fed by Madrid's abismal defending.
