England 3 - 0 Israel
Euro 2008 qualifiers · 2007-09-08 Referee: Pieter Vink

Not a very impressive match

Tumblers

It was the Israeli team that was not impressed. They started out playing spontaneously and achieved a couple of chances. Vink was easily moved by the tens of thousands spectators sitting and shouting for every move. When in doubt he gave the advantage to the English. It resulted in more tumbling and crying players trying to get free kicks for themselves and bookings for the others. All the time Vink acted unsure.

Through

Afterwards it is always difficult to conclude where the problems started. Was it a difficult game with a lot of players becoming mad and trying to run through other players and achieving a free kick in return? Or were the players acting mad because they felt this referee was an easy target to play?
Anyway, it was not a good game for Vink. The first goal seemed off side to me, allthough we can also blame this on the linesman. After this first goal Israel were an easy prey and the game was settled.

point for discussion.

I like to add a point for discussion. Vink ended the first half, a half minute before extra time. At that point there was still momentum for Israel to level the match. Probably Vink was longing for a break, but I think it should not be allowed (although the ref is always the boss) to end the game before stoppage time. FIFA should be tough on these rules.
