Nicolai's positioning could be improved on, it seems. He was always running the standard diagonals, no matter if the ball followed along. Sometimes he was way too close to the action and most of the times a bit too far away.

Pulling cards for not-so-serious fouls, often results in not-so-necessary reds. The same happened here. Just four minutes after half time Basel had to continue without Zanni who was sent off with a second yellow for a rather clumsy clash with Vincent Kompany. Zanni turned with the ball and company fell over his knee as if in slow-motion.

HSV could have made this 21 - 1. I should say: Rafael van der Vaart could have made this 21 - 1. He played exceptionally well, but so did the Swiss goalkeeper. In the end HSV were lucky to get the equalizer in. The Basel goalie, completeley focussed on van der Vaart, stood motionless as Olic's ball rolled by him.
