A typical Kassai

Kassai and his ars

Mr. Kassai followed his rule-book to the letter. He demonstrated his eagerness to let the game flow, sometimes at the expense of his famous/infamous leniency during the first third of the game (e.g., no whistle for an infringement - 6', no yellow when a player was penalised with a free-kick for a heavy foul - 21'). And then, the first foul after the bells rang for the first third of the game to be over, and the yellow is brandished (Chiriches - 32': quite correctly). The next two yellow cards were certainly too harsh (minor offences compared to other ones - Rat, 45', Giroud, 68'), and there is full justification for the fourth one (Popa, 78'). There were people claiming Giroud nudged Tatarusanu and thus was able to score the first goal (57'). I don't agree. The ref couldn't see any foul play, and the onus for conceding the goal should be put solely on the shoulders of the goalie. The penalty awarded to Rommania (64') was a totally correct decision, as Evra unnecessarily impede Stanciu. As for Payet's gem of a goal - the whole build-up to it started with a French player fouling a Rommanian in Rommania's half (Kassai was not far from the incident, and had a good sight of it) and gaining possession (88') while no whistle was given. On the other hand, was "a serial avoider" of one of latest rules of FIFA - to penalise for throw-ins which are "one handed" and thus should be deemed "foul throw". Almost al Sapunaru's throw-ins were of the "one handed" type (e.g., 43', 54', 64', 83), but never acted upon. The ars were alright but no more than that. Mr. Toth had a difficult situation, where Popa didn't get hold of the ball, which crossed briefly the touchline, before quickly recovered by the player (20'). The ar, retreating to let the player through, was in no position to detect the "out of play" and award a throw-in to France. Mr. Ring made an incorrect decision, calling Giroud offside (22'), and he compounded his mistake by letting Giroud run for the ball before raising the flag (probably because he pondered about what he should decide). He and Kassai didn't see when a Griezmann shot at goal was deflected, thus awarding a Goal-kick to Rommania instead of a corner-kick (37').
