Borbalan and miranda 3.5 out of 5 (goals)

A tale of two Fernandez

Unfortunately, while the players were shining, Mr. Fernandez Borbalan and Mr. Fernandez Miranda (ar2) fluked. Almost every goal was directly or indirectly influenced by their decisions. 5' - Dante sends a long through ball to Muller who is a fraction offside on Bayern's right flank. Miranda's flag stays down, and Muller advances to take a shot and score. 12' - Gotze, offside inside City's goal-area, gets the ball and scores a second Bayern goal. Again, no flag for offside. 28' - Silva scores. a clean goal. no complaints. 2 - 1. 58' - Dante is adjudged pushing Milner inside Bayern's penalty-area. a 50-50 penalty-kick decision (converted by Kolarov). 62' Man. City 3, Bayern Munchen 2. If Dante's nudge deserves a penalty-kick then how comes a blatant push by Javi Garcia inside the centre circle is not detected though the referee was in a very good position to view it clearly? Garcia gains the ball, passes it to Silva who gets rid of a defender and sends the ball to Navas. Navas, almost exactly at the same spot where Muller was when he went for the ball to score his goal, delivers the ball to Milner who puts it into Bayern's net. City 3, Bayern 2. There is yet a question looming: was Navas offside when Silva passed the ball to him. Well, it was a very close call, whatever the ar would have decided. Mr. Miranda was consistent by not flagging for offside. There were some other decision to be questioned, as Kroos not even being booked for one of the most vicious fouls of the evening (77'). Mr. Calvo Guadamuro (ar1) presented a hasty style of "ancient linesmen" when raising his flag for offside for cases which even in "old times" would have deemed passive (36', 57').
