Ajax 1 - 1 AC Milan
Champions League 2013 - 2014 group stage · 2013-10-01 Referee: Jonas Eriksson

It was not,

There were two decive moments in the match

In the 78th minute Ajax lost it's most experieced defender Moisander. He was deliberatedly attacked on his ankle. The referee team did not notice but Moisander had to leave the match injured. Now Milan star Balotelli had to be controlled by substitute Van der Hoorn. In the 95th minute Balotelli started hanging on Van der Hoorn straight in front of the eyes of the 5th referee. Not trying to fall down Van der Hoorn held on Balotelli's t-shirt. The professional actor Balotelli went down cryingly. It took a while before referee Eriksson whistled. Where everybody expected a foul of Balotelli, Erikson was told by the 5th referee it was a foul of Van der Hoorn. So instead of giving a Balotelli a red card, it should have been his second yellow booking, Erikson decided on the last minute of extra time to award Milan a penalty. This was a dicutable decission at least. To award penalties you have to be sure, to award a penalty in the last minute you have to be extra sure.

sadly

Consequently Milan scored, Ajax lost two points. In the last four years Ajax lost crucial points in the Champions League caused by dicutable decissions. I pitty their supporters and al those who are still thinking football is a sportive event. Anyway, all other things Eriksson did seemed well. He tried to keep the match in pace. In general he conquered good views of the actions. Probably he only made two mistakes, that's less than most players did... If the referee could have watched the game from television as I did. It would not surprised me that Ajax would have won and that Milan would have left the pitch with nine players. Now the judo techniques of Balotelli are rewarded, things you should not have wanted. So, sadly big money wins again.
