Kohler got direct red for what David Elleray said "one of the worst fouls I have seen on a football field".
In the second half captain Dunga was sent off with a second yellow. Elleray feared he would never be welcome in Brazil.

The referee did not enjoy this match that he considered an honour to referee. It should have been a fine exhibition match viewed by millions all over the world. Elleray in fact wanted for the game to end. With his typically English sense for understatement he called this match "very unpleasant".
