It could be difficult to referee a match where the host team is playing to qualify for the Semi-Finals of an international tournament. Even more so if the team is Venezuela, the stadium is the San Cristóbal, and it's their first time ever in a Copa America Quarter-Final match. More than 40.000 "Vinotinto" supporters were in the stadium and tried to intimidate the referee. Would the referee try to help Venezuela a bit?
Of course Chandía didn't feel intimidated; in contrast, he directed the match. This one wasn't a violent game, fortunately, and it wasn't complicated for the referee. He was there when necessary. The first yellow was shown in minute 50, to Uruguayan Pablo García. Then he showed only 2 more yellows, both correctly. Perhaps he should have shown one or two more cards...
Venezuela has been eliminated, but they have shown that they are not the "worst team of South America" anymore. About Chandía: I feel he's a contender to referee the Semis or the Final, since the Chileans are out of the tournament. He deserves something like that.
