I think he should have showed his red card twice, for an attack with two legs and a nasty step on an ankle.
But then: this was a final (because this was such a boring match, they showed close ups of crying women in the audience to keep reminding us of the importance of this match) and in finals the rules are always a little different.

imagine this dialogue here at home:
girlfriend: what are you watching?
me: a match
girlfriend: who's playing?
me: uh ..... two Spanish teams.
girlfriend: is it in Spain?
me: no, Bucharest
girlfriend: is it good?
me: no
girlfriend: why are you watching two Spanish teams playing in Bucharest when it's not even a good match?
me: yeah, yeah, I know...
girlfriend: and all those Spanish people... did they fly all the way to Bucharest to see their teams play? Just think of the carbon footprint of this match! It could have been played in their own backyard, just think about it, really!
