Chelsea F.C. 4 - 1 Napoli
Champions League 2011-2012 round of 16 · 2012-03-14 Referee: Felix Brych

No

last hour

Chelsea saw a chance and Napoli had to fight them off, this can mean hard work for a referee. Not just whistling and pointing and looking angry, but anticipating and showing some referee skills. I saw none of that, just a guy running behind the facts blowing his lungs out in his whistle.

soldiers

There were some seasoned soldiers on the pitch, in fact Chelsea consist mainly of old hands having seen it all and the slyest of them all is Drogba. Drogba fell down dying after he almost got hit with an arm, Brych fell for it, Drogba did it again, Brych even showed a yellow to a Napoli player.

a tear

A Napoli player was fouled and while falling he kicked his opponent viciously. Brych didn't see it. The fourth ref, though, let Brych call the Napoli player over. Was he going to send him off after all? No, there was something wrong with the player's shorts. Were they torn? No? Okay, play on.

penalty

There should have been one more penalty, perhaps. It was Drogba who went down, clearly pulled, but it was AAR Florian Meyer who waved it off. At least we know for sure that someone actually saw it happen.

match

a good one.
