Chile 1 - 6 Brazil
Copa America 2007 1/4 finals · 2007-07-07 Referee: Jorge Larrionda

... set and match

Brazil? No!

Chileans don“t want to play against Brazil, ever. The last few times, they have had terrible results, and today was no exception. Chile made mistakes all over the place and Brazil's efficiency was too much for them: before the half-hour was up, the score was 3-0. The game turned boring, and everybody knew who was going to be the 2nd semifinalist.

Simple

Larrionda didn't have any problems: always near the action, and trying to give fluency to the game. He correctly showed yellow to Gilberto for protesting (that stopped him from doing any more of that), the rest of the 8 yellows were shown for punishing violent actions. (When the Brazilians got into their game, the Chileans tried to stop them fouling). Jorge committed some little mistakes, for example, conceding free-kicks for some not very clear fouls near both teams' areas. Nothing really important. At the end of the match, he chose, correctly, not to add any time. Those 90 minutes had been enough for the poor Chileans.

Bye

Uruguay made it to the Semi-Finals, so this one should have been the last game Larrionda has refereed during this Copa America. Now, he's only 39, so he will be able to officiate not only during the next FIFA World Cup 2010, but also in the next Copa America 2011. See you soon, Jorge !
