Mexico 0 - 0 Chile
Copa America 2007 group stage · 2007-07-04 Referee: Carlos Amarilla

Help !

The same

Amarilla's refereeing doesn't surprise anybody. It's always the same: hes near the action, but he just isn't coherent in his decisions. A hard foul here is correctly punished with a yellow, but a similar one there is not considered a foul at all. Is pushing the goalkeeper inside his small area an obvious foul? Yes, but not always. Just sometimes.

Whistling

The match was very boring, but had some livelier spells which the referee managed to interrupt. The rereree stopped all of the few fluid actions we saw in Puerto La Cruz. When two players fought for the ball, Amarilla whistled. Even when it wasn't clear if it was a foul or not. Amarilla made the game even more boring !

Penalty?

In the 60th minute Mexican Rodriguez - in a gentle way, but nevertheless - knocked down Chile's Villanueva inside the "Tri" area. The Chilean went down rather theatrically, but the infraction was there. This game however was too boring for conceding any penalty.
