Good but one important mistake

Samba Sow (Mali) fouled his opponent as last man, it should have been a red card to the Mali player. Abdel Rahman only issued the yellow card which was more likely the wrong choice. In retrospect, this mistake had of course a certain impact on the match. Mali was allowed to stay with 11 players and then scored in the last stages of the match. Apart from that, the foul detection was good and he gave one additional yellow for wasting time.

Assistant Referees

Moffat Champiti and Balkrishna Bootun were the assistant referees of Abdel Rahman. Both showed a solid performance in an easy match for them.

3rd place?

It is hard to say whether Abdel Rahman has any chance to be in charge of the 3rd place game. I think the final would not be the best choice for him, a 3rd place game between probably Zambia and Mali. Why not? Perhaps not because he already had Mali. However, he was not nominated as 4th or main ref in the Ko stage so far, hence I think he has been sent at home. But one thing is clear: he counts to the best referees at this tournament.
