Belgium would have been the more deserved playoff member. Turkey behaved like a small annoyed child. They showed heavy problems in their defence and there was this Volkan incident. The match was played in Galatasaray's stadium, Volkan however plays for Fenerbahce. He was consequently not thus welcome...Croatia could have scored more than three goals, a kind result for Turkey,
The match was decided after 2 minutes, but that does not question the fact that it was a hard match for the officials. Many small fouls, at first, Brych tried it with talking. Too much talking for my taste, but it worked overall. He missed one obvious yellow. Assistants top, no problems in the second half. But there are two situations to focus on.
The first situation was a possible foul by Olic who touched Hamit's heel, perhaps a foul, but as the ball would have crossed the goal line and Hamit behaved like the dying swan, he jumped about 3 metres...in my opinion a reasonably not-awarded penalty. The other situation was however a mistake. It was anger, surely, Sabri did not have his nerves under control, like all supporters and players with red shirts. He kicked his opponent into his heel, the ball was not in the near, a yellow card which would have meant Sabri's second yellow. All in all, Brych could have and should have issued more cards, but I am nonetheless very content with his performance. He showed that he is capable of handling big clashes, and one has to emphasize his young age and the fact that I never, really never saw a really bad Brych on international level, normally, everyone has his ups and downs. Exceptions prove the rule..
I have to correct myself. I saw the penalty situation again and have to state that Hamit made an impudent dive!
