Pezzotta chose the red

Pezzotta chose the red... but not the card. I'm talking about the red Adidas t-shirt, the same colour as the one Horacio Elizondo wore in the World Cup 2006 Final. There was another coincidence: assistant Rodolfo Otero was there to help Pezzotta out, just as he did Elizondo in the aformentioned match.

Good choice

At least for Pezzotta, who seemed calm and always in control. He tried to make the game more dynamic, not whistling for little things or childish situations. There were little mistakes, but in relevant actions, he did it OK.

Well located

Pezzotta was always well located. This helped the referee: for example, when in the 2nd half the Brazilians claimed a handsball after the ball had struck a Mexican defender's face near the "Aztecas" goal line. A hand was not used here and Pezzotta knew it. Another thing: Pezzotta only booked when necessary (4 yellows, 3 Brazilians, 1 Mexican).

Another linesman mistake

We saw another linesman mistake in this game. Not by Otero, a great referee himself. It was Juan Arroyo from Bolivia who flagged wrongly when Diego scored for Brazil. After that, Mexico scored twice (a great goal by Castillo) and was much better than the confused Brazilian team. The "Penta" improved during the 2nd half, but there was a great Mexican goalkeeper there, and strong defenders.
