Barcelona were obviously the better team, what a wonder! However, they showed again that there are - in some matches - incapable of fulfilling the main task in a football match: to score goals. It sometimes look more like handball as the players circle the box, but 75% ball possession is not enough. Real Madrid are now the new leaders, this season perhaps is a bit more exciting then the last years.
Eduardo Iturralde awarded a penalty in the first minute of added time to Barca. The replays showed that there was a contact, brave decision with regard to the point of time. It looked like a dive and Iniesta certainly did his bit that he got the penalty, but contact is contact and means in this pace penalty. Then something happened which I have never seen before. Messi disposed the ball on the spot and during his time of concentration, Kanouté appeared and kicked the ball away from the spot. He was issued a yellow card. Later on, he did it again, then there were troubles, rather fights. Kanouté fisted (!!) in Fabregas' face, he was immediately sent off. Hopefully, he will receive a ban which is larger than just 3 games. I would argue the case for a double-digit ban, but of course, that is not the exercise of a referee. Messi got his nerves and did not manage to convert the penalty. In the 90+6 minute, another Sevilla player (Navarro) was sent off with a second yellow for a stupid and hard foul close to the box. Again a good decision, finally, all the cards and the penalty were totally justified, but the control was not good. Anyway, that was the most exciting closing phase I have seen during the last weeks...and the most asocial behaviour of a football player (Kanouté).
