probably the worst aspect of Gautier' work. He started nervous and always a bit too far from action. He tried (like Kassai yesterday) avoid the use of the whistle the maximum he could and that obviously was a factor for instability of the game. The first half showed some weakness of the french team. Wrong off-sides, some calls missed and some phantom fouls. He showed 3 yellows but he missed 2 obvious YC and that was a constant until the end of the match, i speak obviously the weak disciplinary criteria.
First mistake at 53'. James is fouled and he judges that like simulation, wrong YC against FCP player and denied a serious goal opportunity to FCP. the rest of the game was a bit painful to watch. Gautier didn't study the teams, that was clear. He started to made more and more errors with fouls, and about discipline we couldn't understand the criteria he used. At 84' a small disagreement with players of both teams and he showed 2 YC for players that weren't directly involved in the situation.
He delivered a bad performance, not because he did a big mistake but a big list of small ones. And for me the ones to blame are the UEFA refs board. I agree with the promotion of young and talented referees, but in this case Gautier is inexperienced. FIFA since 2010 and inexperienced at european group stage level was a big mistake to call him so soon. I understand that France needs a name fast, and they have Gautier and Turpin, but they need time to grow and to gain some experience at lower stages.
