Ireland 2 - 1 Armenia
Euro 2012 qualifiers · 2011-10-11 Referee: Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez

Hmm

Red cards

The straight red card against the Armenian goalkeeper was a bad call. Even though it was a handball outside the box, it should not have been whistled as the Irish striker had played handball himself during the assumption of the ball. AR2 Juan Yuste Jiménez should have seen that, Iturralde was ..yeap..too far away from the situation, he could not see it. He had eye contact with Yuste and then dismissed the goalie. It was the 26th minute, surely an impact on the outcome, and one should take into consideration that the winner of this match will be in the playoff drawing, tomorrow. The other red card was a 2nd yellow, it was totally justified and a good decision, the ellbow was in the face of the opponent, probably no deliberate foul, but they always instruct the referees to book players for that..and Iturralde did.

Two other decisions..

The other mistake could be observed in minute 13 when Stephen Kelly should have been red-carded for a brutal foul in the midfield. Iturralde applied the advantage rule and later he booked Kelly. Yellow was definitely too less. In addition, he - in my opinion - missed a penalty to Ireland in the 84th minute, it was a close situation, so I do not want to call it a mistake.

Poetic justice?

Last time, Ireland suffered from a wrong handball decision. They must know how Armenia feel now. I can understand their rage honestly speaking, but such comments cannot be justified and should be deleted.
