Generally speaking, the Belgian refereeing team at this game was not a "tough bite". This team: Frank de Bleeckere, Hermans, Vromans has always approached every game with a maximum dose of seriousness, whether it is a superb Champions League matches, whether it's two average teams like Slovenia and Serbia.
I'm sure Frank would have awarded the 38 minute penalty but, after suggestions of AR1 (Peter Hermans) he changed the decision, it is quite justified. Because Frank waved his arms in confusion...:) Also, an excellent reactions in 78 minute AR2 (Walter Vromans) signaled when Pantelic was in an invalid position.
We read a lot about the character and the work of Frank de Bleeckere, so I will not bother you.
What to say about Frank de Bleeckere?
Not much that we have not already seen. The referee past the primes of his career, experienced, authoritative and, I have to say, never excelled, but he was always a solid standard. The referee, who with less mistakes, always brings success to the match in the end. The referee whose style was never swaying, but always falling into the standards in most critical moments.
Tonight, he made only two mistakes. The first was a yellow card to Jovanovic for "diving". Although a penalty kick was not evident, the decline is not intended to Jovanovic's fraud, but was the consequence of contact with an opponent (who had first touched the ball and then Jovanovic). The second was a penalty kick (which was justified) to be repeated! Handanovic apparently went ahead and brought before the penalty kick (or the ball was in play). Vidic's shot took a beginner, sloppy, but I do not analyze the quality of the shot, but the proper procedure of the penalty kick. The provisions of Law 14 were violated. As a supporter of Serbia, or, as a viewer I would not have criticized him, but, as an observer YES.
