WC 2011 u20 1/2 final · 2011-08-17 Referee: Mark Clattenburg

So-so

A closer look on some calls

The 4th minute: Erick Torres (MEX) pulled his ellbow on the head of his Brazilian opponent, Clattenburg showed the yellow card and after having seen the situation several times I must say that it is no real mistake. It is a 50-50 decision, I would have preferred a straight red card here, but I can easily say that..Then again Torres 20 minutes later. He appeared freely in front of the Brazilian goalie who could catch the ball. What did Torres do? He did not lift his foot, no, he touched the goalie's head with it. Intention or not, to my mind, it is a clear yellow card. Summa summarum, that is a 2nd yellow card, again, Clattenburg refused to give a send-off. His card policy was a bit inconsistent, but there was one superb decision, again by Child! There was a Mexican offside goal which was very close but totally correctly seen and disallowed.

Tournament impression(s)

Well, Geiger was no good final choice, there are especially two referees who totally convinced me: Istvan Vad and Wilson Seneme.
