Referee Roberto Silvera arrived to the stadium and, when he put his feet on the grass, couldn´t believe how foggy it was. Heavy haze, not common in South American games. It was difficult to see, but it didn´t seem to be important. This game had to be played.
Nothing to do with the aggresive and fast team that played 7 days ago in Cucuta. They just tried to defend the 3-1 they had from the 1st match ... it's always the same. And as usual, it is not a very clever strategy. Riquelme led Boca and opened the score with a delightful free-kick. Then, it was all "golden-blue", Boca scored twice and the difference could have been even bigger.
I don´t know how Silvera managed to see the action. In the 2nd half, his assistant Pablo Fandiño asked him to stop the match because he could not see the other-side. But Boca pressed to continue... Silvera was not bad, but perhaps he felt a bit intimidated refereeing in the Bombonera. He didn´t book equally, and when Cucuta had free-kicks, he never pushed the Boca players to respect the required distance. Near the end of the match, he was correct in not conceding a penalty to Cucuta.
Next week, the first game of the Final is being played in Bombonera. Hope without fog ! And with good refs.
