Santos FC 3 - 1 Gremio
Copa Libertadores 2007 1/2 finals · 2007-06-06 Referee: Carlos Torres Núñez

We have the first Finalist

Typical Brazilian

This game really "looked like" a Final. Santos fans made Gremio players feel a bit nervous, shouting and jumping all the time. This wasn´t very effective at the beginning but then it got better for Santos.

Big emotions but not much football

With Diego Souza's goal in the 23rd minute, Gremio had the final really near. But Santos, pushed by their fans, scored just before half-time. In the 2nd half Santos played much better than Gremio, and scored twice with Renatinho again and that big player, Ze Roberto. They needed just 1 more goal and had 10 minutes... They didn't make it. Gremio defended well.

Torres did his best

Torres did his best, but the match was really difficult. Brazilian players are excellent when they just play, but irritating when they decide to do theatrical shows. And this time, they tended to protest every referee decisions. Torres - correctly - booked a player for a dive, even booked a player who was on the bench (Argentinian Schiavi), and also booked a player for protesting. Mistakes? Yes. He should have shown red to Cleber Santana, who tackled Goiano without any intention of getting the ball. He had the match under control just sometimes.

Waiting for the 2nd finalist

Gremio will play Copa Libertadores 2007 Final against winner of Boca Juniors (1-3) Cucuta Deportivo.
